CALLISTO

Compound Astronomical Low-cost Low-frequency Instrument for Spectroscopy and Transportable Observatory

Lead Scientist: Prof. Arnold Benz and Christian Andreas Monstein
Organization: Institute of Astronomy, ETH-Zentrum in Zürich, Switzerland
Objective: Study the magnetic activity of a wide range of astrophysical objects with emphasis on the Sun and cool stars

Several of the CALLISTO instruments have already been deployed, including 2 spectrometers in India (Ooty and Gauridbianur), and a new installation coming online in 2007 in Irkutsk, Siberia. Through the IHY/UNBSSI instrument deployment program, CALLISTO will be able to continuous coverage of solar radio spectra.
